Note From the Incoming Commissioner

My Fellow Managers,

I am humbled and honored to be your next commissioner.

If you’ve read Daniel’s message you may have some questions about my character. Did I tape that shoe to the ceiling? Yes. As you can tell from this photo there is just no way he could have reached that ceiling on his own.

“I’m not drunk, you’re drunk!”

In fantasy baseball, as in life, I’ll always do what needs to be done.

Before I talk about my vision of the future of the league I want to take a moment and thank Daniel for a decade of service as commissioner. It wasn’t until the last few weeks that I started to appreciate the challenges this office brings. Every ruling is dissected and second guessed. Managers feel cheated, others vindicated. The urge to act is strong, but a slow steady hand is what’s required. Daniel has swam through a river of our bullshit and came out clean on the other side. A scandal free tenure that will not soon be forgotten.

But change is upon us, and my vision for the future of this great league will Shirley include a lot of it. Stop calling me Shirley. New rules will be created. Old ones tossed out. Egos will be bruised. New team dynasties will blossom and old strategies will be forgotten. I’m excited to hear all of your ideas in the coming weeks and years.

My guiding principles will be:

  1. Keep it simple
  2. Keep it fun
  3. Encourage managers to be competitive for as long as possible

Though I don’t have all the new rules prepared yet I can tell you a little of what is to come; In 2020 we are switching to an auction draft. Beginning at the end of this season I will introduce an annual, end of season or off-season vote on new rules. The new rules will only effect the following season. All managers can propose rule changes to the Office of the Commissioner.

Finally, this league has amazing history which should be celebrated. Many of our managers have been in the league for seven seasons or more. As such, I have created a blog where our league history can be inscribed, immortalized, and bickered over. All managers all welcome to write articles telling their side of the story. We’ll hear about great triumphs, but also probably a lot of “if only I didn’t get screwed” stories.

Gentlemen, let’s tape the next shoe to the ceiling together!
